Long Route

The long route caters to the intermediate riders who have some experience with longer distances. It presents a moderate challenge, requiring a bit more endurance and stamina compared to short option.

Like the short route, you will be starting from Bolton Arena, Horwich, you will head out towards Adlington, Coppull, with your first feed station at Eccleston.

You will continue out along the Lancashire lanes to Hesketh Bank where you should get your first sighting of the Irish Sea as you meander to the coast and head into Southport.

From Southport you make your way out via Ainsdale and continue towards Parbold. Once done, you will make your way to Standish to the feed station where you can take advantage of the food.

You will rejoin the short route and head back to Bolton Arena for your medal and celebration.

Regardless of the chosen route, all participants can look forward to a fantastic day out. You will have the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful scenery, experience the joy of cycling, whilst raising money for Cyclist Fighting Cancer.

Please ensure you select the route that is suitable for your fitness and goals, ensuring a safe day in the saddle.

The GPX for the route is available and we do recommend you check the route prior to booking on. We also advise downloading the route although the route can be subject to change for safety reasons.

So what is a Sportive?

Many people misinterpret what a sportive is. Sportives are personal challenge rides allowing you to test your legs without the hassle of having to plan a route yourself. Routes usually range from 20 to 100+ miles, with events running more or less every weekend up and down the country.
